The twist is that Something Happens which causes all of these normal circus people to become paranormal, superhuman, whatever, and their powers are sort of related to what they were before. The big cat trainer becomes a TigerMan. The trapeze performer can fly. The bearded lady can change her appearance from male to female at will. Clowns all get bizarre mental abilities.
